DIALOGUE FELLOW

Description:

POMED is a rapidly growing 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to examining how genuine democracies can develop in the Middle East and how the U.S. can best support that process. In pursuit of this goal, POMED hosts panel forums and other informational events which bring together experts and policymakers to discuss pressing issues. These events provide valuable opportunities to advance knowledge, promote dialogue and shared understanding, and build ties among individuals who share a common interest in supporting democratic reform in the Middle East.

This Fall, in an effort to expand our work in this area, POMED looks forward to hiring our first Dialogue Fellow. The position is unpaid, but provides an extraordinary opportunity to engage first-hand in shaping debates over the future of US policy in the Middle East.

Over the course of the year, the selected Fellow will be provided a range of opportunities to expand his or her skill set, knowledge, and network of professional contacts.  Most importantly, the Fellow will take lead responsibility for planning and executing dialogue-focused events for policymakers in Washington, DC: designing topics, reaching out to potential speakers, interfacing with partner organizations, coordinating publicity, and managing event logistics. With the support of other POMED staff members, the Fellow will be expected to host a minimum of one dialogue event each month.

If you seek to complement your graduate studies on governance and democratization and/or the Middle East with practical experience in educating policymakers, this may be an ideal position for you.

Qualifications:

Candidates should be bright, highly motivated individuals with a strong working knowledge of the policy debates surrounding U.S. support for democracy in the Middle East. They should possess outstanding communication and organizational skills, be detail-oriented and be able to multi-task. Candidates should be committed to POMED’s mission and principles. Prior experience managing events and/or working with VIPs is a plus. The position is unpaid. Candidates should be able to work from September 2008 – May 2009 on a part-time basis (20 hours per week).

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and short writing sample to David DeBartolo at dialogue@pomed.org. The deadline for applications is Friday, August 1, 2008.
