Lebanon’s Elections: Candidate Lists Coming In

With the April 7 deadline for election lists to be submitted approaching, Hizbollah has announced theirs. The announcement was accompanied with a fresh pledge from Hassan Nasrallah that Hizbullah is committed to winning the contests. See Qifa Nakbi‘s analysis which shows that while Hizbollah may be running three fewer candidates than they did in 2005, they are likely to retain the same number of seats.

Nakbi also discusses the results of recent polling conducted which shows Michel Aoun‘s Free Patriotic Movement with more support than March 14th, however, with waning support in the Christian dominated region. If the election were held today, the poll predicts a loss of three seats for the Aounists.
