At Democracy Digest, Michael Allen writes about Egypt’s succession crisis and provides a batch of links dealing with the Mubarak regime’s moribund pace of political reform. He notes the fissures being created within the government on the succession issue, as well as the displeasure of some military factions at the prospect of the president’s civilian son taking the reigns. Allen seconds those calling for the U.S. to push for a loosening of the process for licensing political parties, as well as the reinstatement of the two-term presidential limit.
